Juerga - Flamenco Dance Party ¡Hola aficionados!
Let's dance! Whether you have taken a class in the past, are currently taking a class, want to take a class in the future or just plain LOVE Flamenco music, dance and sharing time with friends - this party is for you! Join us on Saturday, April 14 at 7pm at the studio 962 Baxter Avenue. We will have light snacks and sangria, feel free to bring an appetizer or beverage to share! This will also be a farewell to Christina Smith. She will be moving to California in May with her husband who has a new job at a church in Fresno. We would love our students to invite their friends and family to see a little of what they have been working on in the studio - so get your dance shoes ready! Hasta Saturday!

Las Flamencas - New Professional Flamenco Ensemble Over the last few years, our community has supported both FlamencoTalk and Camino Flamenco in countless performances and special events. The two companies have collaborated on many occasions such as WorldFest, Estaciones, Poema del Cante Jondo, dozens of community and educational programs, and now this year’s Mosaico Andalus. The collaborative efforts and common goals have helped us to achieve great success and create memorable experiences for our audience and supporters. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that founders of Camino Flamenco (Juliana Bravo, Kristen Mercker, Brenna O´Hara, and Christina Smith) and FlamencoTalk (Director, Mariya Tarakanova) are joining forces under the non-profit organization, Academy of Flamenco Arts, and forming the professional dance company “Las Flamencas.” We hope you will join us in celebrating this special union and we thank you, our fans and supporters, from the bottom of our heart for your generosity and encouragement throughout the years.

What does the word "Flamenco" mean? There are several theories of what the word "Flamenco" actually means, all of which are pretty speculative. One popular theory says that the word originated from Arabic 'felag mengu' or 'fellah mengu', which means 'peasants without land'.

Through a kaleidoscope of colors and emotions, Mosaico Andalus, or Andalusian Mosaic, will unravel the complex patterns of ancient flamenco forms that make up this art of contrasts. Age-old rhythms, coursing like a heartbeat through the movement of dancers, answering the passionate plea of the guitar and the laments of the cantaores (singers), create a palpable tension that’s waiting to explode like a sonic boom in a fury that is flamenco. Mosaico Andalus is directed by Antonio Granjero (Jerez de la Frontera) and will feature singers Roberto Lorente (Madrid) and José Cortés (Almeria), as well as other national and local flamenco talent.
