e La Raiz was an amazing and truly unforgettable experience. The week before the show we had the worst ice storm in the history of Louisville that resulted in many days of no electricity, heat, or hot water right in the middle of the coldest winter! Despite this crisis, the workshops and rehearsals went on schedule, demonstrating unparallel showmanship and professionalism of all artists involved as well as our students and fans who attended the workshops. On February 6, the Clifton Center's Eifler Theater was nearly sold out, with audiences so enthusiastic, we got standing ovations during the performance as well as afterwards! The words cannot express the gratitude to our fans for their wonderful energy and support! The two magnificent flamenco paintings displayed in the lobby of the theater were created by Graciela Perrone specifically for the show and added another dimension to the entire flamenco experience.
Special thanks to all visiting and local flamenco artists that participated in this project, as well as to our family, friends, and volunteers who have helped us make this show such a tremendous success. We hope you enjoy these pictures, taken by Jami Guess - our friend, neighbor, and professional photographer. FlamencoTalk and Graciela Perrone Featured on Billboard in Louisville
From October through December, ten KY female artists will be
featured on billboards located throughout
Louisville as part of the Equally Yours, a non-profit multi-media event promoting local female artists and
social awareness. This project was funded through The Kentucky
Foundation for Women's Art Meet Activism Grant and promotes art
encouraging social change.
FlamencoTalk and Graciela Perrone submitted a joint entry, the painting
"Bailaoras" by Graciela, depicting flamenco dance Rondeña performed by
FlamencoTalk. FlamencoTalk and Graciela were among the ten artists
selected from 45 submitted entries to be featured on EquallyYours.org
website as well as on billboards throughout Louisville. The "Bailaoras"
will be displayed on a billboard located on the corner of Poplar Level
Rd. and Bishop Ln during the month of November.

What does the word "Flamenco" mean?
There are several theories of what the word "Flamenco" actually means, all of which are pretty speculative. One popular theory says that the word originated from Arabic 'felag mengu' or 'fellah mengu', which means 'peasants without land'.
