Sergio Monroy Brings New Flamenco to The Kentucky Center

The Kentucky Center and In Accord will present acclaimed pianist and flamenco musician Sergio Monroy and the Sergio Monroy Quartet, Saturday, February 28, at 8 p.m. in Bomhard Theater.
Joining Monroy and his ensemble will be Uruguay native and Louisville resident Graciela Perrone (singer/flamenco dancer/painter) and world musician and Lebanon native and Lexington resident George Wakim (violin/oud/tabla/voice).

Monroy is touring in support of his recent recording Chicuco (2008 Bujio Productions). With this latest effort, Monroy steps further ahead in his musical career, offering a very complete work, astonishing in the sound maturity of its brave, daring style, which he describes as very flamenco.
For the pianist, Chicuco is a homage to his parents and to the memory of a childhood passed among the corner shops of his neighborhood, and it pays tribute to everybody who lives far from his hometown Cádix, Spain.

Monroy has been valued by the critics as the most outstanding figure among the new generation of young flamenco artists. His very personal style follows the paths of the new flamenco, a way of blending different styles with frequent references to jazz.
