Intended to create a cultural immersion in flamenco the program will explore the roots and traditions of this famous Andalusian gypsy art through a week's worth of educational workshops and a world-class sizzling performance featuring artists from Jerez de la Frontera, Granada, and Barcelona. Internationally acclaimed flamenco stars Antonio Granjero, José Valle "Chuscales", Fransisco Orozco "Yiyi", and Vicente Griego will mesmerize Louisville with their brilliant artistry and passionate interpretation of flamenco, and evoke Duende, the inspiring force that Federico Garcia Lorca has described as "true, living style, of blood, of the most ancient culture, of spontaneous creation..."

Image Northside International Festival This weekend FlamencoTalk joins Camino Flamenco for performances at Northside International Festival in New Albany. The festival celebrates international diversity in our community through ethnic foods, crafts, music, and dance. Admission to this two-day event is FREE and will feature a performance stage, world market tent, food sampling and sales, petting zoo of animals from around the world, booths to teach about culture and ministry, global partners and local international clubs and programs.Flamenco performances are scheduled for 5pm Saturday and 12pm Sunday afternoon.

What does the word "Flamenco" mean? There are several theories of what the word "Flamenco" actually means, all of which are pretty speculative. One popular theory says that the word originated from Arabic 'felag mengu' or 'fellah mengu', which means 'peasants without land'.

Image Flamenco Workshops With Antonio Granjero Maestro Granjero is one of the world's most respected and electrifying flamenco artists, who has performed across Europe, the United States and Japan, was a fixture of Spanish television and was the lead dancer in a special program for Queen Elizabeth II. Granjero will instruct flamenco dance workshops for beginner and intermediate level students at Studio Aíre, January 30 through February 3, 2009.
