CLASSES
New session of Flamenco Dance classes starts January 20, 2008. For the beginner-level students two classes are offered during this session: Sevillanas and Beginner Flamenco Technique. For intermediate students, new session will begin on February 3, 2008.
Beginner Flamenco Dance Class - Sevillanas
WHEN: Sundays, Starting January 20, 12:30-1:30pm
WHERE: Flamenco Louisville studio
COST: $100/session of 8 classes
INSTRUCTOR: Mariya Tarakanova, Co-Director, Flamenco Louisville
Rhythm, structure, and choreography will be studied for all four coplas (parts) of
this fun dance. Sevillanas is very popular and is danced during celebrations by people of all ages and genders, and
often by entire families and "pueblos". Knowing how to dance Sevillanas
is very useful, since it's a party dance, not to mention, it's great
fun! It's relatively easy and is a great first dance to learn for those
of you who are just starting to experience Flamenco, since you'll get
many chances to polish your skills at Flamenco parties (juergas). No
previous experience is required. For those of you
who are familiar with Sevillanas, or, perhaps, have taken this course
before, feel free to take it as a "refresher" course.
Continuing Beginner Flamenco Technique
WHEN: Sundays, Starting January 20, 1:30-2:30pm
WHERE: Flamenco Louisville studio
COST: $100/session of 8 classes
INSTRUCTOR: Mariya Tarakanova, Co-Director, Flamenco Louisville
This one-hour class will cover flamenco basics including rhythms,
basic footwork technique and basic upper body technique. Simple turns
will also be introduced. A good workout and a great opportunity to continue explore this beautiful art form. Previous experience is helpful.
Intermediate Choreography
WHEN: Sundays, Starting February 3, 2:30-3:30pm
WHERE: Flamenco Louisville studio
COST: $100/session of 8 classes
INSTRUCTOR: Mariya Tarakanova, Co-Director, Flamenco Louisville
This class will concentrate on technique and choreography geared for a specific palo. In addition to the choreography, palo structure
and palmas will be covered to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the art form. This is a strenuous class for students with a
year or more of flamenco training.
